Emotional Regulation, Social Skills and Communication Education and Support

with Melissa Evans - Educator

Social & Communication Skills...

for people of all abilities

Communication, connection and the art of conversation are the big three c's that help us develop positive social interactions. Developing sound social and communication skills can be a significant factor in the level of success achieved by young people at school, at home and with peers.

We provide support for children and their families to introduce new, or build on exisitng skills and find strategies that suit individual needs. To be a success communicator, we must first know how to regulate our emotions.  Learning through play is our secret weapon! Using games, science experients, sport and the arts, our children build confidence, resilience and and grit!

We utilize your child's strengths and interests to:

  • Understand their own feelings

  • Develop strategies for engaging in positive social activities

  • Identify and understand their triggers

  • Develop emotional strength and resiliency

  • Develop strategies to communicate in times of stress or anxiety

  • Develop strategies for increased success with education in the early years

  • Increase problem solving skills

  • Build vocabulary and develop reciprocal communication skills

  • Develop empathy and understanding of others perspectives

We develop a program to meet each  child's individual needs.

Fun, play-based activities to promote skill development for adults and children

LOL Studio

Our Sensory Studio offers a comfortable, safe, nurturing environment for children and  adults  to  learn in.  With  the  use  of  games,  art,  music, science and engineering we will discover strengths and develop strategies where students are set up for success in everyday life.  Learning and growing in the sensory Studio is fun and involves hands on, interactive activities that encourage communication and skill development. Using activities that your child is interested in, helps to develop relationships, solve problems and practice skills in a safe and supported way.

Families as the first teachers

At Language Out Loud we understand the very important role family plays in the development of a child and we welcome parents and family into the Sensory Room. Parents are kept up to date with regular communication about what is taking place in sessions and are provided suggestions for strategies to build on skills and further nurture positive social interactions to achieve intellectual, social and emotional growth.

We strive to:

  • strengthen family relationships

  • improve well-being

  • build social connections

Katherine....

Son aged 6 years

From the moment my son met Melissa he was instantly comfortable. He is excited every week to go and after every visit is in a great mood and very confident. We have seen a major improvement with his language and expressing how he feels. Melissa has also been a great help to us as parents, giving us tips and ideas to help with day to day learning and any issues that arise. Matthew had previously seen a speech therapist and while it helped a little bit it just wasn't what he needed, as he learns better with a hands on approach and through play. We are extremely grateful for what Melissa has achieved with Matthew so far and are excited to continue to work with Melissa as Matthew grows and different challenges arise
